Flair Nasal Strips
Flair Nasal Strips are adhesive strips applied to a horse’s nose to support breathing during exercise. They work by holding the soft outer nasal passages open, reducing the effort required to breathe and helping maintain airflow when working hard.
How They Work
During strenuous exercise, the soft tissue of the nasal passages can partially collapse inward, restricting airflow. Flair strips gently support this tissue, keeping the airways open and allowing the horse to take in oxygen more efficiently. This can help reduce respiratory effort and the strain placed on the lungs during intense work.
When to Use Them
Flair strips suit any discipline where horses work at high intensity, including showjumping, eventing, polo, endurance and hunting. They offer a drug free option for supporting respiratory health during competition, with no withdrawal period to consider.
Application
For best results, apply the strip around 30 minutes before exercise to allow the adhesive to bond properly. The nose should be clean and dry. Position the strip across the nasal passages following the instructions provided. After use, peel off gently and dispose of the strip.
Part of a Respiratory Care Routine
Flair strips work well alongside other approaches to supporting airway health, including good stable ventilation, dust free bedding and appropriate turnout. For horses with ongoing respiratory concerns, they can be a useful addition to your management routine.
