Fly Nose Nets
Fly Nose Nets
A fly nose net covers the area around the horse’s nostrils and muzzle in a fine mesh, blocking flies and midges from accessing one of the most insect-sensitive areas of the face. It’s the standard approach for horses that headshake during ridden work, where surface fly sprays don’t reach effectively or wear off too quickly during summer competition, and for horses showing nostril irritation that interferes with the bit or rider’s contact.
The fly nose nets stocked here are supplied by Kentucky Horsewear, built from a strong, highly breathable mesh shaped anatomically to follow the nostril contour and attaching to the bridle noseband by Velcro fasteners on both sides. The anatomical shape means it fits across different noseband styles, and pairs with a head collar for stable or field use rather than only ridden work. The mesh allows full breathing, and the position behind the noseband means it doesn’t interfere with the bit or the rider’s aids.
Care is straightforward, though worth noting: machine washable at 30°C, but Kentucky recommend washing as infrequently as possible and using a protective wash bag to maintain the mesh structure over time, and air drying outside rather than tumble drying. For horses needing broader fly cover beyond just the nose, the fly masks range covers full face protection during turnout, fly rugs and sheets cover the body, and fly sprays sit alongside as a topical layer. The wider fly protection section covers the full range.
