In-Feed Fly Solution

In-feed fly solutions work from the inside out, making the horse less attractive to biting insects by altering the composition of skin secretions and sweat through diet. They’re typically used alongside topical fly sprays and physical barriers rather than as a standalone defence, and are particularly useful for horses that won’t tolerate spray application or for managing fly burden during prolonged turnout.

The in-feed solution stocked here is supplied by Equine America and is garlic-based, using standardised processing to maintain consistent levels of active polysulphides (the compound believed to deter biting insects) in every serving. The formulation includes apple cider vinegar, seaweed powder, and zinc to support skin and coat condition through the summer months, plus methionine and MSM, with molasses providing palatability for fussy feeders. The liquid format mixes straight into feed without needing to dissolve a powder, and the strong taste profile means most horses accept it without resistance.

Worth noting for competition use: the product is BETA NOPS and UFAS accredited, which manages the risk of naturally occurring prohibited substances and makes it suitable for horses competing under FEI regulations. For racing yards, the MSM content is classed as a threshold substance under the Rules of Racing, so dosing within recommended levels matters. For broader fly season management, the wider fly protection range covers fly sprays, masks, rugs, and nose nets, and the horse health section covers broader supplements for digestive, joint, and respiratory support alongside.

Sulphur compounds released through the coat alter the scent cues that attract insects.

Cycle four weeks on then two off; constant use may dull effectiveness.

Yeast brings extra potassium, so boost sodium in hot weather to keep ratios correct.
