Gag Bits
Gag bits give you lift and a bit of extra brake for a horse that gets strong or leans when the pace picks up. Our 2.5 ring options run through Bombers Bits, Trust Equestrian Inno Sense and Velari, in flexi soft, ported and sweet iron mouthpieces. As you take a contact, the rein slides and raises the bit slightly, adding poll pressure that encourages the horse to bring its head up rather than bury it and pull.
The 2.5 ring, sometimes called a bubble or continental, is the friendly end of the gag family. You can run it on one rein for a mild effect or add a second rein so it doubles as a snaffle until you need the gag action, which makes it a sensible choice for cross country and fast work. It’s stronger than a plain snaffle, so it belongs on a horse that’s genuinely taking hold, not one that’s simply green.
If the horse needs curb pressure rather than lift, a pelham is the better tool, and for everyday schooling a loose ring snaffle is plenty. Browse the full horse bits range, then match your choice to one of our bridles.
